MARKETING OF HOPS
Co-operative Committee
Elected The result, of the election to the Cooperative Hop Marketing Committee was announced yesterday by the Minister of Marketing, Mr. Nash. The members elected by the bop-growers are Mr. 11. C. Benke. Mr. C. J. Boyes, Mr. K. J. Holyoakc, Mr. S. E. O’Hara and Mr. B. T. Rowling. The Government representative on the committee will bo Mr. F. R. Picot. The Minister said that the Co-opera-tive Hops 'Marketing Committee would carry out the functions of the marketing of hops in New Zealand and overseas subject to trll policy matters being submitted to the Government for approval. By the election of this committee the Government had, by virtue of its powers under the Primary Products Marketing Amendment Act, 1937, given effect to the unanimous approval by a meeting of growers of a resolution adopted on January 31 asking for the establishment of a hop committee consisting of live growers’ representatives, plus a representative of the Internal Marketing Division. Section B.of the Primary Products Marketing Amendment Act. 11)37, gave the Minister authority to appoint advisory committees to assist the Marketing Department in the conduct of any business carried out by it. Ou January 12. 11)3!), the Primary Products l Hops) Order was promulgated, bringing hops within the jurisdiction of the Internal Marketing Division's activities. "The election of the committee." -aid Mr. Nash, "was a further step tn the orderly marketing of hops produced in New Zealand.”
