PICNIC IN HUTT PARK

Arranged by the Wellington Provincial Centennial Memorial- Committee, to augment the funds for a memorial which will be erected on the Petone Beach, a comedy picnic will be held in Hutt Park on Saturday. An enjoyable day's outing designed to cater for all tastes is promised. The first will be started at 11.30 a.m., and items will include trotting and whippet races; a hack race for women riders; u draught-horse derby in which leading Trentham jockeys will have the mounts, and another draught-horse race in which members of Parliament, the mayors of Petone and Lower Hutt, and town clerks will ride. Other events scheduled are a female impersonators’ race, cycle and wheelbarrow races, and an oldtime drivers trotting race. There will also be a mock Court, and all manner of side shows. Two bands will attend.
