Returns of latd-up tonnage in French aud Algerian waters on December 1 show a decrease of more than one-third against tlie figures for October 15. For all classes of tonnage there was an Increase of about 5.5 tier cent., the cause of this oeing the number of passenger liners laid lip because of the strike. Divided according to vessels various categories, Hie figures for December 1 were as follows: —Passenger liners, 13 vessels, of 94.670 tons gross (14, of 55.633 on October 15): other steamers__or motor-ships, 40. of 77.041 (l.i, of 10.>.7.»<): sailing vessels, 9. of 2005 (It of 2269) ; tugs and harbour eraft, etc., 83, of 13.061 (SO. of 12,798); total, 145, of 186,780 (150, of 176,457). One foreign steamer, of 4109 tons gross, was laid up.
