FLOATING DOCK
Occupied For More Than 100 Days In Year
"The floating dock was made use of by 28 vessels, which occupied it for 1044 days,” states the engineer to the Wellington Harbour Board, Mr. E. D. Uachemaille, in his annual report for the year ended September 30 last. “Two of these dockings were of the board’s plant and occupied the dock for 13 days, but apart from these the average time that each vessel remained in dock was 34 days. The average rate paid a ton a day for dock charges and rental by. the 26 vessels was 3.42 pence, slightly higher than last year because the individual periods of occupation being shorter. “The total earnings for the year were £4503/7/10, and' the expenditure £8798/6/2, made up of £3616/12/1 for working, and £5259/15/9 for maintenance. Of the maintenance £2788/17/8 was expended ou general upkeep, an increase of £262/0/11 on last year, and £2470/18/1 was the proportion that fell within the financial year of the cost of reconstructing the central guide dolphin, which had proved not to be strong enough.”
