Substantial Drop Last Year DETAILED FIGURES Figures presented to the annual meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board last night showed that the total value of all overseas exports from the port for the year ended September 30 last was £13,979,552, compared with £16,071,093 the previous year, a decrease of £2,091,541.' The principal exports were:— £ Wool 3.344,260 Frozen meat 3,155,414 Cheese 2,589,638 Butter 2,464,345 Apples 487,686 Skins ,379,351 Hides 21.4,256 Sausage casings 183,565 Gold bullion 177,665 Tallow 154,612 Milk, dried and preserved 86,890 Live stock 76,757 Casein 64,727 Hemp and tow 39,-191 Grain 36,671 Seeds 31,406 Kish 30,967 Pears 24,309
The total values of all imports, including specie, computed in New Zealand currency, during the year ended September 30. was £21,755,002, compared with £21,033,504 for the previous year, an increase of £721,498. From Customs returns Hie principal imports were shown as derived from the following countries:— £ United Kingdom 11,085,771 United States of America 2.759,958 Canada 2,596,129 Australia 2,321,501 Dutch East Indies .... 709,219 Japan 523,122 Germany 434,421) Ceylon 165,245 Sweden 136,856 Belgium 120,049 Switzerland 105,474 India 104,164 France 76.383 South African Union . 69,039 Netherlands 67,957 Czechoslovakia 64,885 The total value of New Zealand imports during the year was £55,782,775, and of exports £59,526,032, so that more than 38 per cent, of the total imports and 23 per cent, of the total exports passed through the port of Wellington.
