HOMER TUNNEL
Possibility Of Winter Work Dominion Special Service. DUNEDIN, March 21. The possibility of continuing work ou the driving of the Homer tunnel heading during the winter will be investigated by the Minister of Public Works (Mr. Semple) when lie visits tiie Homer Saddle today. The Minister said in Dunedin on his arrival that if it were found possible to keep the work going during rite winter with safety, progress could be expedited to a great extent. A considerable amount of avalanche protection work has been carried out at the tunnel mouth during the last year, and the extent, to which this Ims been done will probably influence file Minister in making his decision after he inspects the work. The driving of the bottom heading, which is actually a smaller tunnel, lias how gone beyond half-way, and when this lias been finished it will permit of much greater speed in tiie excavation of the tunnel itself.
