Pressure Again Rising

Following is the weather report and the forecost for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today :—

General situation: A depression is moving eastward off the Dominion, and pressure is again rising. Forecast. —Winds : South-west to south-east; strong at first in parts of the Cook Strait area, but decreasing and otherwise light to moderate. Seas (N.Z. waters) : Rough at first in Cook Strait, but moderating. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate south-east to north-east winds and slight to moderate seas. General forecast appears above leading article).

YESTERDAY’S WEATHER

Wellington: The morning was overcast with occasional light drizzling rain, but the. sun shone at intervals during the afternoon. A fresh south-south-westerly breeze blew, and it was cool. Minimum temperature on Monday night, 55.2 degrees; maximum temperature yesterday, 61.8 degrees; temperature at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, 59 degrees; barometer at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, 30.145 inches. Palmerston North: Overcast in the morning, with some light rain, but conditions improved iu the afternoon. South'-east wind.

Masterton: Bleak and cold, with scattered showers and a sharp southerly wind. Wanganui: Overcast with a moderate southerly wind. The barometer at 4.30 p.m. read 30.20 inches and was rising. Napier and Hastings: Heavily overcast, with occasional showers. A light southerly wind and mild temperatures. Waipukurau: Dull and overcast with occasional very light showers, the maximum temperature being 69 degrees. The barometer rose two points to *30.29 inches.

New Plymouth: Light showers in the early morning, but warm sunshine with a westerly breeze during the rest of the day. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.95 inches. Auckland: Cloudy but tine with a moderate southerly wind, the maximum temperature being 72 degrees. The barometric pressure was steady, with the reading at 5 p.m. 30.12 inches. Christchurch: Fine but for the most part overcast, with a moderate southwest wind. The maximum temperature was 60.1 degrees. The barometer rose slowly to 30.21 inches at 5 p.m. Dunedin: Cooler with a maximum temperature of 60 degrees and a light breeze from the south. The sky was overcast for the greater part of the day. The barometer rose steadily to 30.40 inches.
