ANNUAL MEETINGS

Women's Institute Elections March is election rime for rhe Women’s Institutes, and already the results of many annual meetings in the Wellington province are to hand. Silverstream. The year has been a very busy one for the Silverstream Women’s Institute, according to the comprehensive report presented by the secretary, Mrs. Price, at tlie annual meeting. Mrs. J. K. Jefcoate presided. Reports were given by the conveners of the Arts and Crafts Circle, Drama Circle, and by the treasurer. Officers elected for the ensuing year were: President (re-elected); committee, Mesdames Callingham, Ritzema, Hannibal. Ferguson, Richardson, Taylor, McConkey, and Eckersley. Floral posies and sprays were presented to all members of the committee, and gifts were made to Mrs. price and Alts. Smyrk, who were retiring from office. Mrs. Bennett, secretary of the Hiitt Valley Federation, gave a very instructive address on the aims and objects of the movement, and also other information which was of much value to the members. She was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder-spray. Prizes were presented to Mrs. Spademan (sewing), and Mrs. Shadbolt (cooking), winners of the aggregate points competition for the year. Mrs. Smyrk was again successful in the best bloom competition. Lindsay. The annual meeting of the Lindsay Women’s Institute was held at Mrs. Moxham’s residence. The election was conducted by Mrs. Hume, president of the Southern Wellington Federation, who spoke on the Centennial Exhibition and the forthcoming international exhibition of arts and crafts, and other institute matters. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. T. Vincent; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Hossack, K. R. Knight and Selbie; secretary, Mrs. E. H. Green; treasurer, Mrs. Richard Rolston; committee, Mrs. Moxham, Mrs. G. Knight, Miss A. Moxham, Miss K. Rolston. Two new members were elected. A social afternoon followed with afternoon tea, hostesses being Mrs. Moxham, Miss A. Moxham. and the Misses R. and J. Rolston. Mrs. Hume was presented with a box of flowers, and Mrs. Tabor was presented with a posy. Reikorangi-Waikanae. The annual meeting of the Reiko-rangi-Waikanae Women’s Institute was held in Reikorangi. Mrs. G. A. Monk presided. Mrs. Wright, Porirua, was the visiting member from the federation, and gave an interesting talk on the duties of the committee, also of the work of the federation committee.

The following committee was elected: Mesdames Baughen, H. A. Brown, Carter, Deakin, Hardie,■•sen., Monk, Meyer, Coo, Taucher, Wilson, Wootton, and Webb, sen. Mrs. G. A. Monk was elected president, and Mesdames Wilson and Hardie, sen., vice-presidents. Mrs. Deakin was elected secretary and treasurer, and Mrs. H. A. Brown, Press correspondent. Mrs. Monk and Mrs. Wright were nominated for the federation committee. During the afternoon, Mesdames Wright and Deakin were presented with shoulder-sprays, Mrs. Monk with a posy, and Mrs. H. A. Brown with a sheaf of flowers. Horoeka. The annual meeting of the Horoeko Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Price. Mrs. Thomas, who presided, extended a welcome to visitors, also to a new member, Mrs. F. Chatfield. An interesting report on the year’s work was read by Mrs. Frame, and the treasurer, Mrs. Toxward, submitted a very satisfactory financial statement. The new committee was elected as follows: President, Mrs. T. Whitta; vice-presidents, Mesdames Thomas and Burling; secretary,' Mrs. Toxward; treasurer, Miss Burling; committee. Mesdames Frame, Price and Miss M ilcox. An amusing play reading, “The Fourth Proposal,” was much enjoyed. Those taking part were Mesdames Frame, Burling, Price, T. Whitta, and Miss Burling. Hast wells, Mrs. Elliott presided at the annual meeting of the Hastwelis Institute, when the election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs. A. V. Madsea; secretary, Miss 0. Halberg; treasurer, Mrs. McKay; vice-presi-ddhts, Mrs. C. Seymour and Mrs. Broadbent; Press correspondent, Miss A. Dick. On behalf of the institute, Mrs. Dick made a presentation of a beautiful salad set to the retiring president, Mrs. Elliott, shoulder-sprays to Miss E. Dick, retiring secretary, and Mrs. Caseley, treasurer. Mrs. Dick was nominated for the executive committee and two delegates nominated to attend the executive meeting to be held in Woodville in April. Three new members joined up during the afternoon. A very enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. C. Seymour, Mrs. Broadbent, and Mrs. K. Ngatuere. Alfredton. An outdoor afternoon was held at the recreation grounds for the annual meeting of the Alfredton Women's Institute, the beautiful weather being appreciated by all the members. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Hull (re-elected) ; vicepresidents, Mesdames Weston, Smith, and Parsonson; committee, Mesdames Didsbury, Smith, Weston, Clee, Spring, Buick, Low, Algie. I’arsonson, G. Napier, Yarrall and Miss S. Napier, Mrs. Dickens and Mrs. Low were re-elected secretary and treasurer respectively. Dainty shoulder-sprays made by Mrs. J. Hartley were presented by Mesdames Hull, Dickens. Weston and Row. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames T. Smith. Payne, Weston and Low.
