TWO HUNDRED PARENTS

Social Gathering At Queen Margaret College

The assembly hall at Queen Margaret College was rather too small for the comfortable accommodation of the 200 parents who attended the annual social gathering arranged by the parents’ association on Monday evening. The hall had been beautifully decorated by the women’s committee. The president’s table was covered with many charming bouquets and shoulder sprays, and early in the evening these tributes were presented to the principal. Miss I. M. Wilson, and members of her staff.

Some of the permanent, members of the staff are at present travelling abroad. There were, therefore, several teachers present at a college function for the first time. The presentation of the flowers provided a most appropriate opportunity for the introduction of the teachers to the parents. During the evening a very acceptable musical programme was contributed, those taking part being Mesdames W. Duncan, E. A. R. Jones, Misses M. Bennie, Nannsted. and Mr. R. J. Laurenson. The annual report which was presented at the meeting showed a membership of 109, and it was urged that all parents join the association. The usual donation of £lO/10/- had been made to the prize funds, and a garden seat had been erected round the oak tree in the grounds. The association was aiming to erect a volley board and umpire stands for tennis. Two social gatherings had been held during the year. A debutantes’’ ball was being arranged for April 19, and it was hoped that all parents would support this.

A feature of these annual gatherings which has always been well received by parents is Miss Wilson’s speech telling them of the ways in which they can co-operate with her and with the staff for the good of the girls. Her remarks were very pointed but humorously phrased. Before supper was served the performers were heartily thanked on the motion of Dr. S. D. Rhind, and a vote of thanks to the committee and the staff was carried on the motion of Mr. A. L. Wall. The officers and. committee for the ensuing year are as follows: President, Mr. O. C. Mazengarb; vice-presi-dent, Mrs. J. S. Martin; secretary, Mr. G. M. Pottinger; committee, Mesdames Cooke, Da Hard, Duncan, Eichelbaum, Gapes, Gibson, Green, Luke, Madden, Mantell-Harding, Miller, Kellaway, Macalister, Martin, Mazengarb, Monro, Morgan, Lattey, Radford, Rhind, Sapsford, Spratt and Young, Messrs. Jones and Leeder; representatives on iward of governors, Mr. K. E. Luke, and Mrs. J. S. Martin.
