Y.W.C.A. STREET DAY TODAY
Plans are well in hand for the Y.W.C.A. street day which will be held to-day. The various captains hav" been at. work for some weeks organizing their teams. Collecting at the railway station has been undertaken by the travellers’ aid committee, and Mrs. P. M. Cameron is the captain of the collectors for the Bowen Street corner and Mrs. Bullock and Mrs. McGee for Kirkcaldie and Stains block and 'Woodward Street. The Y.W.C.A. cafeteria committee, under Mrs. H. H. Tustin, will collect at Kelburn. Avenue, and members of the Townswomen’s Guild, with Mrs. Pow and Mrs. Angus directing, will be stationed at Stewart Dawson’s corner. Boulcott Street stands will be the responsibility of the Y.W.C.A. Junior Women’s Club, with Mrs. Coleman Stevenson in charge. At the post office a group of young people, captained by Miss Meg Saunders, hope to secure many stray sixpences. Mrs. W. A. Nicholson, with the help of the Y.W.C.A. Nursing Divisions of the St. John Ambulance, has organized the James Smith’s corners, and Miss E. H. Jackson will lie in charge of the Courtenay Place collectors. Friends of the association will have the opportunity of purchasing produce, jams, pickles, cakes, sweets and Blue Triangle Cookery Books a't the various stalls. Mesdames J. Mitchell and Alex. Lawson will be in charge of tlie one at Bowen Corner; Miss E. Veitch and the Y.W.C.A. House Committee at the D.1.C., ami Mrs. E. W. Hunt the one at the Y.W.C.A. Building in Boulcott Street.
It is hotted that the members and friends of the association will receive the generous support of the general public in their efforts for the Y.W-C.A. Masterton League Of Mothers The first meeting of the League of Mothers. Masterton, for 1939 was held in the Parish Hall. A large attendance of members was presided over by Mrs. L. B. Matinsell, president of the league. Mrs, E. J. Burke sang, and the league choir gave several items. “ Mrs. 11. H. Cornish, provincial president of the League of Mothers, was the speaker and was welcomed and presented with a bouquet. Iler talk was entitled “Fellowship and Personality Within the League.” Mrs. Cornish said there were now 101 branches of the league in New Zealand and a branch had been formed at Pitcairn Island. Such a great fellowship of mothers could not help bin be a power in the land. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker, and afternoon tea was served by Mesdames L. B. Maunsell, A. C. Major, J. 11. Irving. G. G. Hancox and b. McNeur, who were the tea hostesses for the afternoon.
