Judgeford Club Opening Day

The annual meeting of the Judgeford Country Golf Club was well attended. In presenting the fifth annual report and balance-sheet to an attendance of 80 members, the chairman, Mr. G. J. Stevenson, congratulated the club on being able to finish the year with a credit balance, in view of the numerous improvements that had been made during the season. The condition of the course throughout the year was very satisfactory, he said, and a credit to the greenkeeper and the committee. The membership of the elub had last year nearly reached the limit, which in itself spoke well for the future. During the evening the members of the club took the opportunity of saying farewell to Mr. E. A. Selman, who has been transferred to Dunedin, and presented him with a travelling case as an appreciation for the service he has given the club as a member of the committee. Mr. Selman suitably replied. The election of officers for the 1930 season resulted as follows President, Mr. S. S. Bridgford ; vice-presidents, Messrs. B. Blake and AV. Martin; club captain, Mr. F. H. Bustin; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. M. R. Jacobson (re-elect-ed) ; lion, auditor, Mr. S. Harrison (reelected) ; committee, Messrs. J. C. Redward, F. Walker, S. L. A. Stevensen, T. Hill and S. Cossins. Women’s officers: Club captain, Miss P. Gardner (re-elected) ; vice-captain, Mrs. J. Bustin; hon. secretary, Miss Gunn; committee, Mrs. M. Jacobson, Mrs. Cossins, Mrs. Lawler, Miss Pinner, and Miss Tilzey. Opening Day. The official opening ot the club’s 1939 season took place last Sunday, about 140 visitors and members being present. During the morning a mixed Canadian foursome drew a large field and resulted in a win for B. Stratmore and R. Rattray, with 65 net. In the afternoon practically everyone went out for a stableford bogey round, for a trophy donated by Mr. B. Stratmore. This resulted in a win for S. Lawler (Judgeford), with 42 points. Next came Gunderson, 38: Mrs. Banks, 37; and Mrs. Lawler, 37. At the conclusion of this round the president welcomed the visitors and members and expressed pleasure at the large attendance. The trophies won during the summer season were then presented.

Paremata Club

Shandon Club The Watt and Banish fixtures of the Shandon elub with the Waiwetu elub set down for play next Saturday have been postponed till April 29. The official event on the Shandon links on Saturday will be a stableford bogey.

Karori Ladies’ Club The annual meeting of the Karori Ladies’ Golf Club was held last week, Miss P. Shotlander presiding. The following office-bearers were elected for the 1939 season: Captain, Miss I’. Shotlander; secretary, Miss D. Anderson; committee, Mrs. AV. McCormick, Miss E. Podevin, Miss S. Quirk, Mrs. G. Siuuniss and Miss E. Wall. Following is the draw for an L.G.U. medal round to be played on Sunday :— Juniors: Mrs. L. Dykes and Miss B. Mathews, Miss D. Anderson and Miss S. Quirk, Mrs. J. Davis and Mrs. W. McCormick, Airs. G. Gardner and Miss J. Lauchlan, Mrs. K. Kennedy and Mrs. D. McGavin, Miss N. Heinemann and Miss E. Podevin, Miss P. Shotlander and Mrs. T. Younie, Mrs. D. F. Anderson and Mrs. G. Simmiss, Miss 1. Stephens and Miss E. Wall. C grade: Miss M. Webb and Miss I. Price, Miss B. Tait and Miss S. Lapthorne, Mrs. Cummins and Mies M. Siinm. Miss L. Smith and Mrs. P. On Saturday afternoon a bogey competition will be played, partners to be arranged at the clubhouse.

The opening of the midweek club will be held on Tuesday, March 28, when a fourball bogey competition will be played, play to commence at 12.30 p.m.
