82 YEARS’ RESIDENCE IN HAWKE’S BAY Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS, March 21. To Mrs. Al. A. Jarvis. Queen Street. Hastings, who celebrated her ninetyfourth birthday today, must fall the distinction of being one of the oldest residents of Hawke’s Bay, as she has spent S2 years in the district. Born iu Wellington, Airs. Jarvis is a daughter of the late Air. and Airs. Pilcher, who moved from Wellington and settled in Clive 82 years ago. Her health and memory are unimpaired and she lias clear recollections of the big earthquake of about (JO years ago. The 1897 flood is another outstanding occurrence which has a permanent, place in her memory, and the earthquake of 1931. of course, is one of the modern happenings of her life. Mrs. Jarvis will be the guest of honour at a birthday party at the residence of her daughter, Airs. Corby, Garnett Street, tomorrow night. Among the guests will be her “young” brother, Air. Nat Pilcher. Gisborne, who is still hale and hearty at 87. Another brother is Air. Frederick Pilcher. Otane, and sons of .Mrs. Jarvis still living are Alessrs. Stephen, David, Peter. George. Frederick and Jack Jarvis. Her daughters are Alesdames Marshall (Auckland), Brandon, Corby and Wall, all of Hastings. She has CO* grandchildren, 26 great-grand-children, and- two great-great-grand-children.

Airs. Jarvis's present, ambition is to reach the century; so well and active is she that it is difficult Io realize that she is already well into her nineties.
