AT AWAPUNI

Preparations For Friday Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N.. March 21. Everything points to the meeting of the -Manawatu Racing Club being attended with .success. A light, steady ram during the night and early morning has improved the track conditions, and the lawn enclosures and flower beds, which have received special attention, have never looked better. The response from horseowners is very satisfactory, nearly all the events bristling with the names of horses of merit.

Many of the horses who raced at Trentham were restricted to light tasks today.

Royal Chief. Entail. Settlement, and Homily, looking in gooil heart, were given paeework on the plough. Laughing Lass, 'bearing a very bright appearance, moved attractively over a circuit, with a brush home over the last three furlongs. White Gold riveted attention by reeling off six furlongs on the plough in 1.19— a good gallop. Old Surrey and Bumble were not required to do anything outside of paeework. They are well forward. Millament was accompanied by Chevy Chase in a three furlong gallop, which occupied -12. The former held the advantage.

ilurora’s Star has not done a great deal of racing, but the outings she has had recently have been beneficial and she is now better conditioned than at any time previously. Her task was five furlongs, registering 1.6. Cuddle and Tidal Gift were partners over five furlongs on the plough in 1.74. Pas de Cheval and slyanion went three furlongs in 41 3-5, the latter finishing the better.

There was not a great deal between Royal Choice and Beaupartir in a gallop over seven furlongs in 1.32. Both finished with a good deal in reserve. ■Sudan and Wildflower went well over five furlongs in 1.6. Copy Cat traversed half a mile in 544.

Tidewaiter, looking robust and healthy, worked two rounds pacework on the plough. The Inflation colt. Deflation is on the holiday list.
