SMOKE SCREEN GOES WELL

Gallops At Wanganui Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, March 21. Interest was added to the track work this morning by the appearance of D. T. slarks with Smoke Screen, Taurangi and Red Cat, who are to race at Awapuni. Smoke Screen (S. T. Edwards) anu Taurangi (K. Reynolds) were associated in a spin over seven furlongs on the -no. 1 grass track, on which the fast work was done. The going was in good order, light rain overnight having taken the sting out of the ground. . Smoke Screen showed that bis treiithaiu form was all wrong by galloping in fine style and easily holding Taurangi, the time registered being 1.29 l-o, which Smoke Screen could have bettered considerably had he been asked. .They ran the first quarter in 25} and the halt-mile in 50. His connexions were very disappointed with the way Smoke Screen raced in the Challenge Stakes, but be has turned very moody. If he is in galloping humour on Friday he must have good prospects in the Gold Cup. in which eient Taurangi also figures. Red Cat (Reynolds) slipped over bye furlongs by herself in attractive style in 1.2 1-5. She was wide out and was finishing on strongly. Though she has a bi" weight. 9.6, she should run prominently in the Woodley Handicap on Friday. Amigo was restrietj'd to trotting exercise. He is not engaged the first day at Awapuni, but will be on hand on Saturday. He looks much improved by his racing at Trentham and should ruu well in whatever he starts on Saturday. War Lap (Edwards) was sprinted halt a mile, which he left behind in 50 l-o> doing it very nicely. He looks all the better for the easy time he has had since Wanganui. , . Amatory was given useful pacework. He is freshening up again after a let-up, and may be seen out at Stratford and Waverley.
