STAFF DISMISSALS

Comment By Mr. Savage Reference to the report that casual employees of the Employment Division of the Labour Department had been dismissed because of the absorption of the division by the Social Security Department was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage. "This is one of the tilings we will deal with,” said Mr. Savage. "We do not want men working for the sake of working when there is nothing for them to do. If they are not needed we will have to make provision for them somewhere else.”

AUCKLAND CLERKS Dismissals Expected Today By Telegraph — Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 21. Temporary clerks employed in the Auckland Employment Division of the Labour Department, a portion of which has been absorbed in the new Social Security Department, now face the certainty that substantial retrenchment is contemplated among them. It is expected that dismissal notices will be issued tomorrow. Till they joined the division front the ranks of the unemployed, some of the temporary clerks had bad no previous clerical experience, but there are others with long training who have held responsible positions. There are large numbers of uneinployed clerks on the labour market in Auckland.
