ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Townswomen's Guild Meeting A large number of members and visitors attended the March meeting of the Wellington Central branch of the Townswomen’s Guild last week, when 1G new members were welcomed by the president, Mrs. J. Pow. The meeting was in the rooms of the Wellington Operatic Society. The main business of the afternoon was the election of officers for the ensuing year, the following being the result: President (re-elected), Mrs. JPow; honorary secretary-treasurer, Mrs. A. Ensor: vice-presidents, Mesdames Bradstock, Knox-Gilmer and P. H. Kinsman; executive, Mesdames Leach, Kerr. Lyons, R. M. Moffatt, K. Fowles, McKendry, R. Arlow, Williams and A. Thompson. Mrs. Campbell undertook the’eonvenership of the exploring circle for the coming month. Mrs. A. W. Morse offered to relieve Mrs. H. Crowther of her duties in connexion with tea-tickets for part of the year, and Miss Craig was reappointed as “hostess-in-chief.” Mrs. Pow thanked these members for their offers of services on behalf of the guild and was herself accorded a round of applause on her re-election as president. In reply, Mrs. Pow thanked the members for this sign of their confidence in her, and said that she would do everything in her power to further the interests and aspirations of the guild. As a member of the committee of the women’s section of the forthcoming centennial exhibition, she said she would be glad if any branches or members of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen’s Guilds wishing to exhibit articles from the arts and crafts

circles would communicate withi her as soon as possible. An interesting feature of the afternoon was a demonstration of exercises by Miss Caroline Ward. This graceful exhibition was much enjoyed, and Miss Ward was presented with a shoulder spray as a token of appreciation. A short French sketch by Mrs. E. Kerr, convener of the French circle, and Mrs. Reed, provoked much laughter. Afternoon tea, served by Miss Craig and hostesses, brought an enjoyable meeting to a close.
