Brilliant Round By W. B. Reilly EIGHT STROKES UNDER PAR A feature of the weekend golf in Wellington was a brilliant round of 66 by W. B. Reilly, runner-up in the New Zealand amateur championship, on the Hutt links. Reilly's total was eight strokes under the scratch score for the course. Reilly’s effort followed on a succession of low scores during the past few weeks. He played almost faultless golt. Details of his card were:— Scratch score (out) ; 453444544 37 Reilly : 343430-144: —o 4 Scratch score (in): 434545354 —37 Reilly : 333544343 —32 On Saturday the Hutt club’s stableford event was won by R. H. Rawlinson, 32-6-38. Next came IL K. Adamson, 00-4-37, J. A. llaiiseu. 31-4-35. Yesterday morning the fourball bestball bogey handicap was won by 11. K. Adamson (4) and R. IL Rawlinson (0), 11 up. Then came J. Flaniigaii (6) ami E. I<. Craighead (9), 9 up; G. B. Lancaster (5) and G. M. Frazer (7), 8 up. In the afternoon the stableford event was won by D. M. Wilson, 32-5-37. Next came J. Hansen 30-4-34; J. Flanagan, 27-5-32; L. Monkman, 23-7-32. Karori Club ( On Saturday afternoon J. Watchman (24) won thc medal round with b9-24-6u, with J. McKenzie, 79-13-66, next. On Sunday morning K. Barron (12) and 0. Wareham (22) won the fourbal bogey, 6 up, followed by E. Lash (5) and K. Martin (16), 4 up. . In the afternoon T. Youme 111) and E. Castle (24) won the fourball stableford with 42 points, with I. Mclntosh (13) and J. Cooper (17), 41 next. Waiwetu Club The new lay-out of 18 holes on the Waiwetu links was in use for the first time during the weekend. Yesterday morning a stableford bogey handicap was played and resulted in a win for A. S. Abram (15), with 34 points, on a count back from K. Rudolph, who also secured 34 points. D. Woon (3), 32, and N. J. Harris (17). 32, were next. A. fourball bcstball bogey in the niternoon resulted in a win for K. K. Watts (10) and N. J. Harris (17), four up. The opening of the winter season will take place next Sunday. The club president. Mr. T. J. Harvey, will perform thc opening ceremony, after which there will be a. combined foursome bogey.
Shandon Club The March medal competition played at Shandon on Saturday resulted in a tie between J. 111. Nicolaus, 75-4-71, and D. Sutton, 86-15-71. The fourball bestball bogey match also resulted in a tie between M. Fossey aud K. W. Maeleod, and B. Cahill and J. Graydon. The former pair was successful in the draw. Bogey event: K. W. Maeleod, 2 up; W. Ryan, 2 up. Combined stableford: W. Ryan and J. O'Caliaghan, 65 points; A. E. Clarke and J. Hume, 64 points. Miramar Club The concluding fixture of the summer golf season at Miramar was played on Saturday, a fourball. unconditional, being the event, ft attracted a fair field. The best scores were as follows:—J. Shelly (2) and H. Black (1), Allan, R.M. (17) and L. A. Notley (8), J. S. Hiddlcstifu (5) aud G. S. McNair (9), each 8 up; Wyber (14) mid M. P. Mabin (8). Lockwood (11) and Cornelius (12). each 7 up: W. A. Dentice (9) and McLean (5), Griffiths (9) and W. Robertson (14). Holthouse (14) and Hudson (14), Flanagan (2) aud Hott (17), Austad (17) and Monro (9) each 6 up. In the lilial of the Summer Cup on handicap over 36 boles, J. 11. Drake (1) beat A. 1,, llolliugs (16) by 2 and 1. The opening day for the 1939 season has been fixed for Saturday, April .15. Two excellent rounds during the weekend were 69 by 11. Black and 70 by J. 11. Drake. Black’s card read: 445333444— 34 ; 543444344—35—69.
