TWO NEW ZEALAND RECORDS LOWERED
220 Yards Hurdles And 80 Metres Women’s Hurdles ..Dominion Special Sekvice. DANNEVIRKE, March 18. Two New Zealand and one Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay centre records were lowered on the Danuevirke Domain oval this afternoon when the Dannevirke Amateur Athletic Club held a most successful meeting. Great interest was added to the meeting by the appearance of Hawke's Bay and Manawatu athletes, including Miss R. Tong, Miss G. Symes, J. Bickerstaff and E. S'harpley. In au at tempt on the 80 metres hurdles Miss Tong lowered the New Zealand record to 12 3-ssec. If. Sharpley lowered his own New Zealand record for the 220yds. hurdles by t.wo-tifths of a second. Application will be made to have these records recognised. J. Bickerstaff, in a special attempt, lowered the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay .centre record for the 4-10 yards hurdles by one second.
These performances demonstrated that the Dannevirke track, under the perfect which prevailed for the meeting, is one of the fastest in the Dominion.
INTERCLUB MEETING
Palmerston North Beats Petone ■ PALMERSTON NORTH, March 18. A series of athletic contests between members of the Petoue and Palmerston North Amateur Athletic and Cycling Clubs attracted a good atteudauce to the sports ground tonight. ' Some Splendid contests were witnessed, and the result was a win for the Palmerston North club by 54 points to 36.
