Handicap Meeting In
Hataitai
CLOSE OF CLUB SEASON
A handicap meeting on Hataitai Bark on Saturday brought the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre’s interclub season to a close. The national women s and ior championships in Auckland next Saturday will maintain the interest, and one or two business clubs in Wellington have yet to hold their meetings. The interclub graded scratch competition was won by the Wellington club, with 200 points. Kiwi (141) were second, Combined Old Boys (73) third, University (58) fourth, and Olympic (40) fifth. Most individual points were scored by L. Vernon (’Wellington), 16 points, among the seniors, and P. Gallagher (Combined Old Boys) 17 points, among the juniors. Kiwi retained the Kitto Shield for the parades, with 275 i points, and Wellington were second with 261. The meeting on Saturday did not attract big fields, but was a useful run for the representative women and juniors. P. Interfaculty Meeting
Conditions were perfect for Victoria University College’s annual inter-faculty athletic sports on Kelburn Park on Saturday, and some quite good times were registered. The sprints in particular were excellent races, J. P. Eastwood and C. V. Adams fighting out sterling finishes in both the 100 yards and 220 yards championships. E. M. Irving won all three, hurdle which were held on Hataitai Park in the morning. There was international talent in the men’s mufti race, R. Freeman winning from V. P. Boot by a narrow margin. With the three miles championship to be. run tonight, the faculty of Arts and Science holds an unassailable points lead over Law and Commerce.
