A world speed record for weightcarrying machines, which had never previously been attempted, was established when a Savoia-Marchetti S.M. 75 aeroplane fitted with three Alfa Romeo engines covered 2000 kilometres with a load of 10,009 kilogrammes (nearly 10 tons) at an average speed of 206.8 miles an hour.
