Vice-Regal. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway were present at the Wellington races at Trentham yesterday. Last night, Lord and Lady Galway left Wellington for the South Island, where they will undertake a number of official engagements in Dunedin, Queenstown, Oaniaru and Christchurch. Sir James Gunson, Auckland, is visiting Palmerston North. Sir George Elliot, accompanied by Ltrdy Elliot and Mr. G. I’. Elliot, left Auckland by the Maetsuycker yesterday for Singapore, aud will later go to South Africa and England. Mr. E. W. Ackland, Wellington, wars a passenger for the South Island last night by the steamer express. Mr. J. W. Heenan, Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs, returned to Wellington from the south yesterday.

Mr. A. E. Mansford, mayor of Palmerston North, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday by the steamer express.

Mr. G. R. Holder, who has oeen deputy-register of the Supreme Court in Whangarei for the past 21 years, has been transferred to the Supreme Court staff in Wellington.

Mr. C. E. Robertson, manager of the stud stock department, of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., returned to Wellington from the South Island yesterday.

Mr. W. J. 11, Wilcox, New Zealand manager for the Australian National Travel Association, left Auckland yesterday by the Mariposa for Melbourne, accompanied by Mrs. Wilcox.

Mr. 11. D. Acland, Christchurch, and Mr. A. S. Holms, Waimahaka, Southland, two members of the Meat Board, returned south from Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Mr. S. J. Shayle-George was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court in Wellington yesterday by Mr. Justice Blair on the motion of Mr. P. IL Putnam, and Mr. R. W. Baird was admitted ns a barrister and solicitor on the motion of Mr. G. G. G. Watson. Mr. F. B. Logan, Keren:, Hawke’s Bay, accompanied by Mrs. Logan and their daughter, Miss Rachel Logan, will leave Wellington next week in Ihe Mataroa for Loudon. Mr. and Mrs. Selby M. Palmer, Maraetotara, Hawke's Bay, will also sail in the same vessel. Mr. J. E. Hamilton, who has been accountant of the Dunedin branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., for the past 2J years, has received notice of his promotion to the position of accountant at the Auckland branch of the bank. Mr. L. O. S. Tarbutt. at present sub-accountant in Dunedin. Ims been appointed to succeed Mr. Hamilton as accountant, and Mr. 1,. A. <’< Hichnniii, of the* Wellington branch, will bo transferred to Dunedin as subaccountant.
