NEW GRAMOPHONE NEEDLE
A gramophone needle that never needs to be changed (no, we’re not referring to the Ab-rd-n variety!) has been invented. It gives 2000 playings —which means that, with average record use, it will last for two years. You insert it iu 1938, and forget about it until 1946.
The new needle is sapphire-pointed, and, iu addition to its long life, it practically eliminates hissing surface noise and does not wear the record. As a test, twenty records were each played 100 times, all with the same ueedle, and showed no wear or audible surface noise. Au even more exacting test was made by playing a new record halfway across 250 times. Comparisons between the played and unplayed halves showed uo difference either to the ear or under a powerful mircoscope. Cost of the new needle in America is in the region of 8/-.
