Seven Motorists Fined The use of Melling one-way bridge had greatly increased since the new bridge had been opened in Silverstream, said Inspector A. J. Archer when he prosecuted seven motorists in the .Magistrates’ Court, Lower Hutt, for driving over Melling Bridge when there was already one car on it. One defendant said that the warning sign was too high and was out of sight of the average motorist. Chief Inspector J. Fletcher said that the sign was properly situated. Another defendant, Edward Charles Tapp, Petone, -who said he would not have driven over the bridge had he known that Inspector Archer was in the car already on the bridge, was fined £1 with costs The following were each fined 10/-, with costs which, except where otherwise stated, were 10/-: Alexander Rait Porirua (12/-); Dorothy Key, Upper Hutt; Frederick Valentine Nels-on; Maurice George Talbut, Petone; Urban Scoble, Petone; Laurence Perkins, Wellington.
