NEW STAFF MEMBERS WELCOMED

A meeting of the Wellington Y.W.C.A. Board was held recently to discuss the street* day to-be held next Wednesday, and to welcome new members to the staff. The president, Mrs. Robert Gardner, was in the chair, and on behalf of the board members welcomed Miss Helen Macdonald, the new physical director, and Miss H. M. Saunders, formerly of the Palmerston North Association, who has joined the Wellington staff as junior girls’ activities secretary. Miss Macdonald gave a short talk on her work and the progress she had made in promoting her classes. She had planned a series of free demonstration classes, she said, and those which she had already held, for business girls, were a great success. Similar classes were to be held for children and older women.

Miss Gertrude Owen was a guest at the meeting. Miss Owen, who is the national general secretary of the association in Australia, is visiting New Zealand on her return from the World’s Council meeting in Muskoka, Canada, Miss Owen gave an interesting talk on the many associations she had visited, and also spoke of a co-operative movement developed in the Canadian maritime provinces by a Roman Catholic priest.

A progress report made on the preparations for .street day showed that the plans were well in hand for both the stalls and the collectors. It was decided to invite the collectors and all other helpers to afternoon tea on Monday, so that the schemes might be completed.
