Centennial Carnival Candidates A meeting of the centennial queen carnival committee was held in the Lower Hutt Borough Council chambers on Tuesday night, Mr. H. Mcßain presiding. The following queens were approved by the committee: Sports queen, Miss Muriel Howe; R.S.A. queen, Miss Joan Cowie; busineiss and professional men’s queen, Miss Ella Darley; motor industries queen. Miss Natalie Whiteman; women’s organizations’ queen, Mrs. J. Bradley. The railways’ and manufacturers’ queens have not yet been decided. The contest will be declared open by public notice not later than next Monday. It has been found necessary to postpone indefinitely the manufacturers’ garden party which was to have been held at Woburn, the home of Mrs. V. Riddiford, on Saturday afternoon. Coining-of-Age Parly.

Major and Mrs. A. E. Colcott recently entertained 40 friends at the Salvation Hall. Lower Hutt, on the occasion of the coming-of-nge of their daughter. Miss Elsie Colcott. Miss Colcott wore a frock of pink silk with blue flowers at the neckline. a blue velvet girdle, and a floral headband. Mr. E. Long sang, and Mr. A. Stern was the master-of-ceremonies. Mrs. G. Colcott, Daitnevirke, made the birthday cake. Farewell to Miss L. Benson.

Miss L. Benson, a prominent member of the Lower Hutt Salvation Army, was recently farewelled at the hall. Miss Benson, who will leave shortly for training at the Aro Street Training Garrison, has been leader of the Life-Saving Guards, Girls’ Bible Class leader, and the Army standard bearer. Presentations were' made to Miss Benson from the organizations, mid Major Coleott, C. 0., Mr. Adams, C.S.M.. and Mr. Wilmshurst, T.P.S.M.. paid tributes to her work in the Army.
