Wellington Market Quiet REDUCED TURNOVER The Wellington share market was quieter yesterday than on Tuesday, with the turnover back to the recent low level. Banks were again in fair demand, as were Australian industrials. Following Tuesdays activity there were more sellers in the market, with buyers inclined to hold off. WELLINGTON EXCHANGE Yesterday’s Quotations The latest buying and selling quotations recorded yesterday on the Wellington Stock Exchange were as follows:—
Midland Trust And Loan Co. Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., March 15. Improved earnings of £4OO oyer the previous year brought about by investing a percentage of their capital in more remunerative channels was reported to the annual meeting of shareholders of the Midland Trust, Loan and Deposit Company, held in Palmerston North last night. The chairman of directors, Mr. E. It. B. Holben, presided. The report stated that, generally speaking, the directors were able to report steady progress, which, however, had been offset by an increase in Government taxes. The total balance-sheet figures showed an increase of £lO,OOO, all of which was in liquid assets. u t i The directors recommend that the bala nee of £1790/10/- to the creidt of the profit and loss account be appropriated as follows Dividend at the rate of 5 per cent., free of income tax, to absorb £1750; to transfer to reserve fund £4O The retiring directors, Mr. E. R. B. Holben and Air. R. H. Spencer, were reelected. Mr. R. Davis was re-elected auditor. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the ehairman said that the directors were able to report a steady appreciation of values. Business in land, however, was restricted because of purchasers beiug'unable to secure possession on sale. Myer Emporium Ltd. In reporting an unchanged interim dividend of 3 per cent, on ordinary shares for the half-year ended January 31, the directors of Myer Emporium. Ltd.. Melbourne. state that the company has bad an exceedingly satisfactory half-year. They express the hope that when the lull profits for the year are ascertained, the final dividend will be at, the same rate, and that a bonus will be declared as has been the custom in the last few l years.
