HOMING PIGEON DERBY

Wellington Society’s Event The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society held its Club Derby Knee from National Park (150 miles airline) recently. Because of bud weather at National Park the birds were held over for a day and were kindly attended to by the stationmaster. He liberated 27 pigeons, representing 13 members, in fine weather, but evidently conditions were not favourable ou the journey and a very hard race resulted. The winner was R. Tasker, a new member. whose first success was most popular. lie receives a silver cup. donated by Mr. F. Sanders, and prize money. The first six plaeings were as follows: —-R. A popular member of the Wellington Homing Pigeon Society, Constable J. Orr. who has been transferred to Hawera from Kilbirnic, was the guest at a gathering held in the clubrooms on Saturday night. Many references were made to tiie esteem in which members held Constable Orr, and regret was expressed at the loss of such a popular fancier. A presentation was made by the president, Mr O'l ’ea. References were made to the ill-healtli of the patron, Dr. Gillies, and Mr. D. Andrews. of the Hutt Valley club, and a million carried expressing the wish of for their quick recovery.
