VIENNA BOYS’ CHOIR
Tour Of New Zealand Next Month
Mr. D. O'Connor arrived at Wellington from Sydney by the Wanganella yesterday to manage the New Zealand tour of the Vienna Mozart Boys’ Choir, from the famous Mariahilf boys’ school, Vienna, where the boys for the three cathedrals of that city are trained and educated. It, is three years and a half since the last Viennese boys’ choir was in Wellington, but. that length Of time is almost a generation in the life of the choir 'boy, and none of the present members of the choir were in the former party. When Hitler marched into Austria and ended Its history as a separate nation. it was doubtful whether this choir would be allowed to leave Vienna at all, but the authorities in Berlin were appealed to, as arrangements hud been made everywhere, and they agreed io the tour. The choir appeared in Dublin first, and after a five weeks’ tour of Ireland went to London, where two concerts were given at Queen’s Hall, the critics being most gracious. Since then the choir has visited Canada and just at present is completing a tour of the United States. The choir will leave America for New Zealand on March 26, will open in Auckland on April 15 and ■Wellington on April 26. Dr. Georg Gruber, the conductor, has x European reputation, both as a choral and orchestral conductor.
