JUNIOR CHAMBER
Opportunity For Young Men To Serve The value of the junior chamber was emphasized by Mr. R. H. Nimmo, proposing its toast at the annual meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night. The junior chamber, he said, as represented in Wellington gave a young man an excellent opportunity to display his talents and contribute to-the total good of the community.
“On every hand we see experiments being conducted by countries with dissimilar systems to our own; experiments that call for the greatest loyalty aud devotion; experiments that deprive the individual of his self-deter-mination, but somewhere there is a motive for the zeal and intensive effort displayed,” Mi. Nimmo said. “I am sure the young manhood of New Zealand would respond to any challenge that is made to it, and I am not solely thinking of combat when I speak of challenge. It might be in the realm of civic duty, or in personal relationships, or in developing a community structure which is positive in its effect upon people, or it might be the development of a national programme which would contribute to the whole population.
"As a result of my world tour, my long association with the Y.M.C.A., and in view of the Government’s interest in physical fitness and like-movements, I am more firmly convinced that we have to invite and encourage young manhood to lake its place among the governing powers of a community and a state,” Mr. Nimmo said. Mr. C. J. Mac Gibbon, chairman of the junior board, responded.
