BUILDING TRADESMEN FROM AUSTRALIA
More Than 200 To Arrive By April 3
NUMBER FOR WELLINGTON INCREASED By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 13. It was announced today by the Minister of Housing and Immigration, Mr. Armstrong, that by the end of the month more than 200 building tradesmen engaged in Australia by Mr. Hodgens, M.P.? will have left Sydney for employment on. housing work in the Dominion. The Awatea will bring 30 men to Auckland tomorrow, the Wanganella has 39 for Wellington, the Niagara next Monday will have 47, and in three subsequent trips of the Awatea to Wellington on March 20, March 28, and April 3, she will bring further contingents of 55, 36. and 12 men respectively. Mr. Armstrong has now ascertained that the labour shortage is more acute in Wellington than in Auckland, where there is rather a shortage of building materials. For that reason more men will be sent to Wellington than was originally intended.
