SUBSIDY CONSIDERED INSUFFICIENT
Road Work In Vicinity Of Ahiwea Stream Dominion Special Service NAPIER, March 13. The Public Works Department’s offer of a pound for pound subsidy for work on rhe road in the vicinity of the Ahiwea Stream was commented on strongly at today’s meeting of the Hawke's Bay County Council ,by Cr. E. 11. Beamish. The estimated cost was £3500, and ou that basis the amount, required was considered quite beyond the resources of the riding, he said.’ “A year ago last Saturday Mr. Semple accompanied us to the location, and we came away full of hope that when an aerial survey which Mr. Semple asked for, and which was carried out, was completed something would be done to alleviate the trouble on this road, but it is still a disgrace,” said Cr. Beamish. “I can only express regret that more has not been done and that a larger grant has not been made. ‘‘l shall move that we again take the matter up with the Minister _ and see if something cannot be done. Nothing can be economically done with the road till it is sealed, and it is hopeless' to seal it till the Hood menace is dealt with.”
