WORK AUTHORIZED

New 36-Foot Road Along Waiwetu Stream Endorsement of the action of its works committee in authorizing work to proceed on the construction of a 36-foot roadway along the Waiwetu Stream south bank, between Park Road and -Seaview Road', was given by the Lower Hutt Borough Council last night. The committee reported that the Hutt Park Committee had advised that as a result of a conference between representatives of the council, the Wellington Trotting Club and the park committee ■it was agreed that the construction of this roadway was desirable from the viewpoint of the authorities interested. The committee had requested that the council carry out the work and deal directly with the trotting club concerning reimbursement of expenditure. The filling was to be supplied by the Public Works Department and was to be delivered on the job in accordance with an arrangement with the department made by the park committee. Engineers Congratulated. Congratulations were extended to the engineer on the speed with which the street sealing programme had been carried out.i The mayor, Mr. .1. W. Andrews, said that a good deal of credit was also due to the assistant engineer, Mr. Hogg, who had invented a sprinkler at a cost of £l6 which did the work rapidly.
