BEGONIA HOUSE FOR LOWER HUTT

Mayor’s Generous Action

. A fernery and begonia house is to be erected op the new reserve on Western Hutt Road, Normandale, recently acquired from Mrs. E. Reynolds by the Lower Hutt Borough Council. The mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, stated at last night’s council meeting that the spot was a good one which would lend itself as a setting for the raising of begonias as fine as ajy in the North Island. The mayor said he had been impressed with the fernery and begonia house in New Plymouth and considered an excellent opportunity offered itself to establish one in Lower Hutt. He was prepared to give the woodwork, doors and windows for such a glasshouse.

The council endorsed the reserves committee’s decision to erect a glasshouse and accepted the mayor’s offer with thanks.
