NEW CARGO VESSEL
Kurow Due Next Sunday
On her maiden voyage from Glasgow to Wellington, via the Panama Canal, the Union Steam Ship Company’s new cargo vessel Kurow has advised by radio that she expects to arrive at Wellington next Sunday. The Kurow left Glasgow on February 2 and has made good time on the voyage in spite of extremely bad weather in the North Atlantic.
A single screw steamer of 3850 tons gross, the Kurow is designed for a service "speed of 12 knots. Her hull is of the arcform type, a design adopted in her sister ship the Komata and also the Waipori, the two most recent additions to the Union Company’s fleet. Her cargo gear conforms to the most modern standards for efficient loading and discharging and is similar to that installed on the Komata. She was built by Alexander Stephen and Sons, Ltd., Glasgow, to plans and specifications prepared as customary by the company’s technical staff in Wellington.
The Kurow is under the command of Captain M. MacKenzle, who has with him as chief officer Mr. A. P. Cousin and as chief engineer Mr. F. McConville.
