HOSPITAL BOARD
Reduction in City’s Representation HUTT-EASTBOURNE GAINS A readjustment of the electoral representation on the Wellington Hospital Board undiT a proposal of the Health Department was agreed to by the board last night without enthusiasm. The report of he general purposes committee placed before the board commented: —“In view of the increase in the population of the combined Lower Hutt, and Eastbourne boroughs, and a corresponding deci ease in that of Wellington City, no objection be raised to the proposal of the Health Department to increase the representation of the combined Lower E utt and Eastbourne boroughs to two ni, nibers and decrease the Wellington City representation to 13 representatives. ’ Mr. A. J. McCure y objected strongly to the department’s decision. He questioned the accuracy of its figures showing variations in city and suburban populations, and said that for the department to say th it the valuation of Wellington. City had fallen was to present a misleading fase for reduced representation in till city area, because the boroughs mentioned had not been revalued as had bee|i done in the city.' He moved the following amendment to the committee’s report: —“That the board has no recommendation on the proposal.” | Miss A. Kane seednded the amendment, which was carl led. Dr. Campbell Begg- summed up the general attitude of the members by remarking that the question of representation was no business of the board’s. It was clear, however, that there were too many memtiers on the board.
