WAIRARAPA FLOOD SAFEGUARDS
Board’s Proposal Rejected Dominion Special Service. Masterton, January 31. An important proposal affecting flood relief schemes in South Wairarapa was discussed by a' meeting of ratepayers of the South Wairarapa River Board. The proposal was for the acquisition of over 900 acres to allow of the straightening of the Ruamahanga River. Considerable opposition was raised from several quarters, notably from the Tuhitarata settlers, who feared that their lands would be inundated by the removal of certain banks, and also by others who wanted a more comprehensive scheme. After several amendments had been moved and withdrawn the meeting approved of one asking for a comprehensive report to be submitted in twelve months’ time.
