IMPROVING TENNIS

“Send Younger Players Abroad” F. J. PERRY’S ADVICE By Telegraph.— Press Association. Auckland, January 31. Comments and advice on New Zealand tennis were given ! by F. J. Perry, the Wimbledon champion, im an interview to-day. He strongly advised that the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association should send some of the younger players abroad. At the present time the Dominion’s four best players never got anyone better to play with, and the winning of the national singles title led to nothing. A start should be made by sending teams to play in the Australian championships. It was unfortunate that the New Zealand Association picked its Davis Cup teams from men living in England, for the experience they gained did not benefit New Zealand tennis. In mentioning players, Perry said that E. L. Bartleet (Auckland), N. G. Sturt (Auckland), C. Angas (Canterbury) and D. G. France (Wellington) had a real foundation to their game, and Bartleet was undoubtedly the best of the four. There was a wide difference between the first four and the next crop.
