Wellington Hospital to Buy Added Supply “GRATIFYING SUCCESS” A decision to purchase another set of radium for £60(1 for uterine work was made by the Wellington Hospital Board last night, conditional upon the approval of the Minister of Health. “This purchase is absolutely necessary to obviate delay in treatment,” remarked Dr, Campbell Begg. “I think the public should know that the use of radium for treating cancer under the heading for which the added supply is required, is showing very gratifying results, the percentage of cures being very satisfactory/’ The superintendent, Dr. A. R. Thorne, the acting-secretary, Mr. J. B. I. Cook, Mrs. A. McVicar, Messrs. F. Castle (chairman), and C. A. L. Treadwell were appointed to represent the board at the forthcoming conference of hospital boards at Napier during the first week in March. Al ternative tenders for the laying of three or four tennis courts near the hospital garden, subject to permission from the Minister of Health being obtained for the work, are fo be called. t
The chairman, Mr. F. Castle, said the board had been endeavouring for years to secure the courts for the use of the nurses and members of the staff. “These courts are an urgent necessity to give the nurses adequate recreation,” said Mr. Castle.
A sub-committee of the following was set up to revise the board’s by-’ laws: Mcs. A. McVicar, Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell, Dr. Campbell Begg, and Dr. T. L. Parr.
