FORTY-HOUR WEEK

American’s Advocacy at Geneva DIVISION OF OPINION (Received January 31, 7'p.m.) Geneva, January 30. Mr. Lubins, representing the United States Government, speaking at the International Labour Office conference, demanded that the 40-hour week apply to as many industries as possible throughout the world. He said that the results of such a policy in the United States had been most satisfactory.

Workers’ delegates approved Mr. Lubins’s proposal, but all Government representatives except those of Italy opposed it on the ground that a 40-hour week would upset the economic structure.

Voting on Ml Lubins’s proposal will be taken on Friday.
