DISTURBANCE AT DANCE
Young Men Before Court Carterton, January 30. A disturbance nt a dance held at Gladstone on December 8 had its sequel in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when proceedings were taken against five young men. Mr. J. Miller, S.M., was on the bench. A plea of guilty was entered by Thomas Newlands to a charge of assault. lie was fined £5, with 15/3 costs. To further charges of disorderly behaviour and of failing to pay the admission fee New lands pleaded not guilty. He was fined £1 on each charge with costs, 13/- and 10/- respectively. A charge of disorderly behaviour was also preferred against John Taggart, who pleaded not guilty. A fine of £2, with 13/- costs, was imposed. Taggart, E. F. Gorringe and Herman -I. Rattner all pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to pay the admission fee to the halL They were fined £1 each, witli costs 13/-, in each ease. On a similar charge, John Ford, who also pleaded not guilty, was fined 10/-, with costs 13/- and witnesses' expenses 15/-.
