Selection of Cricketers
Sir, —The teams to play in the cricket match, North Island v South Island, have been published, and I notice no country players have been eelected. I also notice that none were recommended by the Wellington association. Is it not time that this association was told that it has others in its district besides the city area? This district was allotted by the New Zealand Cricket Association and hence should be accepted. From the report of its meeting, it appears as if the association wants to get rid of the country associations. If this is so tlie selector and a few of the members should visit them to see the players. There are eleven players at least who are worthy of a plat’e in the North eleven before any of those Wellingtonians selected. The match in February is styled North v South Island, but a better title would be South Island v Auckland province and Wellington City. It has been said in Wellington (in 1911-14) that Aucklanders were "one-eyed” but let me point out that this term can be applied to Welliugtonians with, a vengeance. My eleven players are as follows: R. Hatch, N. Gallicham, Murchison, A. Cutler, Cameron, Blaniires, Lambert, Worker, O’Brien, Beck, T. Reaney, and not forgetting T. C. Lowry. The skipping and fielding of Worker, and the' fielding of Beck in the Hawke Cup match, Hawke’s Bay v Manawatu. could be well copied by Wellington Shield playens. I trust that this letter will bring forth a storm of protests on the treatment accorded to country cricketers. —I am, etc., TOWN v. COUNTRY. Palmerston N., January 29.
