SWEPT OUT TO SEA

Wanganui Victim’s Body Recovered Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, January 30. The body of Lionel Beaton, aged eighteen, was recovered on the inward tide at Castlecliff just before midnight last night. lie had been for a swim with a friend, T. O'Connor, between the north mole and the remains of the Cyrona wreck. Beaton, who was an indifferent swimmer, was caught by a strong undertow running about eight o’clock and was swept out to sea. O’Connor tried to rescue him but was not a strong swimmer and unequal to the task. Beaton was employed in the office of Mr. C. S. Swan, secretary of the Wanganui Trotting Club, and of the Wanganui carnival committee. He was a promising cricketer, and early this season was one of those who gained centuries. lie resided with his widowed mot her at Castlecliff.
