HAWKE CRICKET CUP
Southland Withdraws Challenge £5O GUARANTEE SOUGHT Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, January 30. The Manawatu Cricket Association was advised this afternoon that the Southland Cricket Association had been obliged to abandon its challenge for the Hawke Cup for financial reasons. The Southland association stated that it would be prepared to play Manawatu if the Manawatu association would guarantee £5O. The Manawatu association, however, has advised Southland that no guarantee can be given, as there is no profit to be made from Hawke Cup matches. The Marlborough association has entered a challenge.for the cup, and it is likely now that tlie New Zealand Cricket Council will allocate the date for the Southland match, February 15 to 17, to Marlborough.
