Canon James said that there was grief in many hearts for (he loss of Maurice Denniston. “We have,” lie said, “lost a friend whom we were always glad to meet in tills warmhearted, generous man, who always seemed to be happy, because of his large love for his fellow-men, which won their love in return. He died comparatively young, but life is not to lie measured by length of days but rather by faithfulness to the motives and ideals which have directed and governed life, by duty done, and by work accomplished. “It is no exaggeration to describe Maurice Denniston as a man remarkable for the wide range of bis human sympathies. His sympathy did not evaporate in emotion; he was eager to translate it into action. He threw his whole heart into good causes; lie undertook his full share and more in good work. He never spared himself, but persevered to the end in that to which lie had put his hand.”
