MAN LOST AT SEA
«. Fruitless Search Made STEWARD ON KALINGO , I Further particulars of the loss at sea of Mr. R. Fuller, assistant steward, who disappeared from the Union Company’s steamer Kalingo when the vessel was in the Tasman Sea on Friday last, were given after the vessel’s arrival at Auckland from Sydney. Mr. Fuller was seen carrying out his duties about ten o’clock on Friday morning. He was missed shortly afterwards and a thorough search throughout the steamer failed to find him. The Kalingo was then put about and the sea was searched for nearly three hours, during which the vessel retraced hetcourse until she reached tlie locality where she had been when the man was last seen. The weather was fine and clear and there was a light’ south-west swell. Nothing was seen again of the missing man. and about one o’clock in the afternoon ths search was abandoned and the Kalingo resumed her course to Auckland. Mr. Fuller was born in London in 1905. He joined the Kalingo at Melbourne on December 18 ar.d he was making his second trip to New Zealand in the vessel. An official inquiry regarding the loss of Mr. Fuller was made by the Auckland Superintendent of Mercantile Marine, and further inquiries were made by detectives who visited the vessel after her arrival. The missing man is reported to have been of a very quiet disposition and was friendly with everybody on board.
