MILK HYGIENE

Sanitation Conference Sanitary inspectors and health officials from all parts of New Zealand spent an interesting day in ’Wellington yesterday, the second day of the conference of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Sanitary Institute, in discussing modern technical aspects of their work. In the morning the chairman was Mr. G. Hart, Wellington city engineer; in the afternoon, LieutenantColonel F. W. W. Dawson, assistant medical officer of health, Christchurch ; and in the evening, Dr. Mary Champtalottp, New Plymouth. The principal topic in the papers read to the conference was the various aspects of milk supplies from the point of view of hygiene. Mr. 11. A. Reid, pathologist of the Department of Agriculture, spoke on the biological aspects of milk, and Mr. W. Barry, director of the live stock division of the department, spoke on its hygienic production. Other addresses were read by Dr. Ritchie, director of the division of hygiene; Mr. W. Wilson, of the dairy inspection staff; Mr. Cowell, manager of the Cottleville Dairy, Lower Hutt; Dr. Fletcher Telford, Christchurch (paper forwarded from Christchurch) ; and Dr. W. F. Findlay. Wellington. Members of the Wellington City Council engineering staff spoke on municipal cleansing, and Mr. F. N. Thompson, assistant city engineer, Wellington, described the ventilation system in the Mount Victoria traffic tunnel.
