Tremendous seas beat all round British coasts throughout the week-end, several small vessels being lost, fortunately without loss of life, and six lifeboats responded lo calls of distressed shipping. COLD SPELL IN INDIA Havoc in Cotton Crops (Received January 29. 7.20 p.m.) Calcutta, January 28. Tlie recent icy spell throughout India created havoc in the cotton crops of the Gujarat district, Bombay. In many eases over 70 per dent, of the plants were destroyed, while in other Bombay districts there was widespread destruction to tobacco and fruit crops.
