ALLEGED AGREEMENT AMONG FARMERS
Preventing Forced Sales Of Property OFFICIAL STATEMENT IN COURT AT SYDNEY By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 29, 10.20 p.m.) Sydney, January 29. According to an official statement made in the Bankruptcy Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Lukin, farmers of this State have banded themselves together with the object of preventing Government officers conducting forced sales of distressed farmers’ properties, either ,by refusin gto bid or making such ridiculously low offers that the official receiver is unable to realise. Lo££l auctioneers are even afraid to act on behalf of an official receiver owing to the possibility of a boycott by local farmers. Mr. Justice Lukin sent James Hoban, Tamworth, to jail for defying a court order to hand over to the official receiver 1090 bags of wheat and 70 tons of lucerne in accordance with a sequestration order on November 23. It was stated that Hoban hitherto had been treated with the greatest leniency and consideration.
