SURF LIFE-SAVING

Championships to be Held on Sunday Arrangements were finalised’ at a recent meofpng of the AVeilington District Surf Association in connection with the championship to be held at Paekakariki on Sunday. Entries have been received from Alaranui, Lyall Bay. Island Bay. AVorser Bay, Eastbourne and Paekakariki clubs. It was decided to commence at 11 a.m., with the Law Rose Bowl competition, to lie followed by a teams’ .surf race._ At 2.15 the march past championship for the Kennedy Alarehing Cup is to be held, and at 3 p.m. the Sanderson Alemorial Cup competition will take place. Alore than usual interest attaches to the championships this year, in view of the close proximity of the New Zealand swimming championships at Auckland on February 17. and Lhe New Zealand surf championships at New Plymouth en February 23-24. An invitation Lo (lie member of Parliament for the district, Mr. AV. IL Field, has been extended, and the Railway Department is making arrangements for the teams to travel bv the 9 a.m. train from Thorudon. The judges for the competitions will be Alessrs. AV. 11. Gerrie, 11. D. Dickson and P. Edwards. Mr. V. Allen will again officiate as referee, and the competitions.will be conducted b.v the marshal Mr. N. A. Ingram. The tiinekeepers will be Alessrs. Foley. M ilton, Ricketts and Dudson. The meeting discussed tentative arrangements for a gala day on the Petone beach on Sunday. Alarcfi 10. on the occasion of the official visit to AAellington of Air. F. G. Fishendon. vicepresident. R.L.S.S. Central Executive. London. It is hoped to secure tlie cooperation of the Petone and Lower Hutt swimming and life-saving clubs, the Petone Rowing Club and the Petone Band.
