CITY COUNCIL STAFF

Annual Outing in Glorious • Sunshine In glorious sunshine, with the heat tempered by a fresh breeze from tlie north-west, the staff of the- AVeilington City Council held its annual picnic at Day's Bay yesterday. So propitious were the conditions, so large the attendance, and so beautiful the bay and its surroundings that some of the older employees voted it one of the very best annual outings ever experienced. Alost of those who attended went across to the bay in the ferry steamer Aluritai. Although an ample sports programme was provided in .the grounds of AVilliains Park the majority of tlie picnickers preferred the allurements of the beaeh and its attendant bathing, boating, canoeing, and donkey rides. In AVilliains Park an aeroplane merry-go-round added; to the delights for the young, who were also given so many races that nearly every child won a prize of some description, and those who did not were amply provided for by a hard-working committee, which was determined that everyone should have a good time. 'l’llo only record kept of the events and made available for publication was of Unit for the George and Doughty Cup. which was for the best aggregate over 1(10 yards and 220 yards distances. McIntyre was the winner, with Elliott second. 'The city councillors’ cup for a relay race (teams of four) was won b.v the change-over staff of the electrical department. There were plenty of races for boys and girls of all ages; for men under fifty and over fifty; married women's race, and children’s balloon race. There was also a tennis tournament, a putting competition, canoe race, swimming. and diving events. Milk, ice cream, ."nd cordials were issued during tlie luncheon hour and from 3.",0 anti 4.15 p.m. The committee in control of the picnic consisted of Miss Bennie, Messrs. Kirk. 'L'ennet. Spolsky. 11. I-l. Nicholls, Stempa. and Blackman. Among those present, were Councillors T. Brindle mill P Butler. The outing concluded with a dance in the pavilion in the evening.
